【摘要】:Inertingisameasuretopreventexplosions.Byfeedinginertgasintoasystemwhichistobeprotectedagainstanexplosion,theoxygencontentisreducedbelowacertainconcentrationuntilnoexplosioncanoccur.Theadditionofsufficientinertgastomakeanymixturenon-flammablewhenmixedwithair(absoluteinerting)isonlyrequiredinrareoccasions.Therequirementsforabsoluteinertingwillbediscussed.Inertingmayalsobeusedtoinfluencetheignitionandexplosioncharacteristicsofanexplosiveatmosphere.Theguidancegivenoninertingisalsoapplicabletopreventanexplosionincaseofafire.Thefollowingcasesarenotcoveredbytheguideline:?admixtureofaninertdusttoacombustibledust;?inertingofflammableatmospheresbywiremeshflametrapsinopenspacesofvesselsandtanks;?firefighting;?avoidinganexplosiveatmospherebyexceedingtheupperexplosionlimitofaflammablesubstance.Inertingwhichissufficienttopreventanexplosionisnotaprotectivemeasuretopreventfires,self-ignition,exothermicreactionsoradeflagrationofdustlayersanddeposits.
